- Background and details on unit:
- WWF has a vision of an economy and a society that has zero tolerance for plastic pollution and all harm caused to the environment from such pollution. As part of this vision, WWF has launched the global initiative “No Plastic in Nature”, aiming to address the plastic problem using a holistic approach. WWF is aware that there is no single solution to plastic pollution. Instead, we need a comprehensive strategy that engages actors in government, business, and the public alike.
Plastic Smart Cities (PSC) is one of three pillars in the No Plastic in Nature Initiative within WWF. Since 2018, the pillar initiative supports cities and coastal centers that are taking bold action to stop plastic pollution. WWF’s PSC Pillar is working with 25 pilot cities in SE Asia and China to achieve a 30% reduction in plastic leakage in cities’ by 2025, through better waste management and advancing circular economy. With almost USD $40 Million dollars of funds raised, the PSC pillar is one of the biggest and most complex programs in the No Plastic in Nature Initiative.
